YORSwitch is now in its fifth year, and to mark the occasion iChoosr, the council’s technology partner, are giving away a year’s free energy to the one-millionth registrant.
This year marks the fifth anniversary of iChoosr running collective energy switching schemes in the UK, which YORSwitch is a part of. During this time residents across the UK have saved in excess of £37 million. In the East Riding this figure is more than £4.6 million. To mark this, iChoosr are giving away a year’s free energy to a lucky UK resident who is the one millionth registrant and switches.
The winner will receive one year of free electricity and gas up to, and including, the value of £1,135 (including VAT). This is based on the Ofgem average of dual fuel, direct debit and available paper tariffs from the six large suppliers at February 2017.
George Frost of iChoosr said: “To reach one million registrations is remarkable and a real demonstration of how collective switching has succeeded in reaching households to help them find a better deal on their energy.
“To be the one millionth person signing up to switch would be a worthy accolade BUT everyone can be a winner if the try getting into the switching habit. Go on, give it a go, you know it makes sense!” added Councillor Symon Fraser, portfolio holder for strategic asset management, housing and environment.

The auction for this round on YORSwitch will be held on 22 May and participants have until Tuesday, 3 July to switch.
